Designed by Giancarlo Pretazzoli, Espongo is a luxury, double-sided design piece defined by strong formal rigour and refined versatility. Conceived as a multifunctional object, it can be used as a shelf, bookcase, desk or countertop, adapting seamlessly to different spatial and functional requirements.
Its design reduces volume to the bare essentials while elevating the piece through the artistic interplay of planes, proportions and luminous reflections. The balance between structural precision and visual lightness transforms steel into a sculptural architectural presence.
Architectural expression and material depth
Fascinated by the expressive potential of metal and by Lamberti’s ability to shape steel into pure form, Rome-based architect and interior designer Giancarlo Pretazzoli developed Espongo as part of his broader design language. The piece reflects the same fusion approach that defines his collections, where functionality, architecture and artistic experimentation coexist.
Inspired by late 1940s Italian design, Espongo features elegant, transitional lines enriched by subtle sensual curves, creating a dialogue between discipline and fluidity, solidity and reflection.
