Description
The PH 5 Mini is a pendant lamp designed by Poul Henningsen, derived from the iconic PH 5 originally created in 1958. The original concept was developed in response to the many inconsistent shapes and sizes of incandescent bulbs at the time, which Henningsen considered illogical. His aim was to design a lamp that could work perfectly with any light source.
Thanks to its advanced multi-shade system, the PH 5 emits a glare-free downward light while simultaneously illuminating its internal structure, creating a soft and comfortable glow from the centre of the pendant. This principle made the PH 5 so successful that it became synonymous with “PH light”, a standard that continues to meet the needs of contemporary interiors today, including in the PH 5 Mini version.
Introduced in 2017, the PH 5 Mini is a smaller-scale interpretation of the original design, preserving all of Henningsen’s functional and aesthetic principles. The top shade measures approximately 30 cm in diameter, making it ideal for smaller spaces or for clustered installations above dining tables, kitchen islands and contract settings.
At the heart of the design lies Henningsen’s scientific approach to lighting, first developed in 1925 with the three-shade system based on the logarithmic spiral. This structure ensures an even distribution of light across the curvature of the shades, effectively reducing glare and shadows.
In 2020, the PH 5 Mini Monochrome series was introduced, highlighting the iconic design with a more contemporary expression. The matte metal shades are available in black, white and ultra blue, offering a bold, graphic aesthetic suited to modern interiors.
