Description
The PH 80 floor lamp belongs to the historic PH three-shade family, developed by Poul Henningsen from 1925 onwards with the aim of creating scientifically based, comfortable and completely glare-free lighting. Henningsen did not design a single lamp, but an entire lighting system, founded on the principles of the logarithmic spiral, which has resulted in nearly a thousand different models over time.
Designed in 1974, after Henningsen’s death, the PH 80 was created to celebrate the 80th anniversary of his birth. The design follows the three-shade principle, where each shade is positioned at a specific distance from the light source, reducing the light in equal proportions and ensuring an even distribution across the entire curvature of the shades, while effectively controlling glare and shadows.
The original PH 80 is distinguished by its red top reflector, which adds a warm and atmospheric glow to the light. The opal acrylic shades create a light visual expression and emit a soft, inviting illumination into the surrounding space. Over time, the PH 80 has also been introduced in black and white versions, featuring a more contemporary appearance and a smoother base finish compared to the slightly textured surface of the classic PH 80.
The black version combines a black top plate with a white top reflector, complemented by a matte black stem and lamp holder, creating an elegant contrast and a more graphic expression. The white version offers a refined all-white design, with matching top reflector, top plate and stem, providing a minimalist and modern alternative within the PH 80 range.
