Description

VL Studio Wall Lamp - Louis PoulsenThe VL Studio family originates from a lamp designed by Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in the 1940s for Radiohuset, the headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in Copenhagen. The name “Studio” refers to the original use of some of these lamps outside recording studios, where red or green light indicated whether a broadcast was in progress.

Vilhelm Lauritzen was the architect behind Radiohuset, inaugurated in 1945 as a masterpiece of functionalist design. As with most of Lauritzen’s buildings, the project was conceived as a complete work of art, with the architect designing every interior element and detail. In close collaboration with Louis Poulsen, Lauritzen developed an extensive collection of lighting for Radiohuset, including the Studio lamp, the VL38 table lamp, the Radiohus pendant (VL45) and the VL Ring Crown series.

After their original production in the 1940s, all these lamps were eventually discontinued. In recent years, Louis Poulsen has gradually reintroduced the collection: the VL45 and VL38 in 2016, the VL Ring Crown in 2019, and most recently the VL Studio in 2022.

Closely related to the Radiohus pendant, the VL Studio wall lamp produces a soft, diffused light through its opal glass shade, creating a pleasant and welcoming glow around the fixture. Faithful to the original materials and design, with subtle refinements, the VL Studio wall lamp is crafted in lightly brushed polished brass or matte black, paired with a glossy, mouth-blown, three-layer white opal glass shade.

The luminaire emits a uniform, glare-free light. The three-layer opal glass ensures comfortable illumination of the surrounding area, while the shade can be tilted 90 degrees to the left or right, allowing flexible control of light distribution. With its refined materials and understated elegance, the VL Studio wall lamp brings warmth and a contemporary touch to any interior.

Available in Brass and Matte Black finishes.
